Land ownership is a very important aspect of Irish history, and Irish people around the world know the significance of owning your own land in our culture. Now it is possible to give the gift of being an Irish landowner.

Our History with Land Ownership

You may be asking why land ownership so important to us Irish. Well, it has to do with our turbulent history of colonisation, plantation, and emigration.

Britain began colonising Ireland as early as the 12th Century, with small scale immigration. In the 16th Century, they began their mass plantation of the country. The English men and women who colonised Ireland took our land, our farms, and our homes. Eventually, they became our landlords and we had to pay them to remain living our own land.

During the Great Famine of 1845-1849 more than 1.5 million people emigrated from Ireland, the majority of whom never returned home. This mass emigration had a lasting effect on the culture and psyche of the Irish people. Irish soil became a symbol for home and longing.
